Kapotte Muziek is the musical improvisation project. Active since 1984, it is one of the most internationally visible improvisation and experimental projects hailing from the Netherlands.

Since starting Kapotte Muziek in 1984, the group has undergone several distinct phases of change. First was the duo of Frans de Waard and Christian Nijs, which ended in 1987 when Nijs left and started to learn to play the guitar. Then followed a phase in which De Waard actively searched for other musicians to send in sounds to be used. In 1993, a new experience arose when Kapotte Muziek went on tour in the USA. Initially, this was to be a tour with Dutch group THU20, and Kapotte Muziek planned a show with pre-recorded tapes and slides. One by one, the members of THU20 backed out of the tour, leaving Peter Duimelinks; it was decided to play live concerts as a duo under the name Kapotte Muziek. The first week in New York was spent buying some equipment and rehearsing. It came down to ’15 minutes of drone, 15 minutes of collage-like music and 15 minutes of noise’, but as the tour (17 concerts) progressed, all new experiences were incorporated into the music. Not in the least because of the help of Illusion Of Safety, who joined the first bundle of performances. In 1995, the duo became a trio, adding Roel Meelkop (also from THU20). Since then, the trio (sometimes duo, once solo) has played 121 concerts in Europe, the USA, Canada, Russia and Japan. In 2017, Peter and Frans played a last one in Norway, although there was no formal end. Kapotte Muziek went on a six-year hiatus, which Frans de Waard used to create a CD, ‘Discon’, using many of the group’s live recordings. In late 2023, Kapotte Muziek returned to playing concerts and has been active again, now celebrating 40 years of musical activity.
Kapotte Muziek utilises found objects and sounds to create electro-acoustic music through improvisation in a non-traditional manner, earning it the title ‘the AMM of industrial music’.

Ezdanitoff

Since 2010, Ezdanitoff has been a collaboration project between Frans de Waard and Wouter Jaspers. They share a love for electronic music, radio waves, and ambient sounds, and they work within the framework of structured improvisations. They performed concerts in the Netherlands, France, Germany, Denmark, Lithuania, Hungary, and Canada. They conducted workshops on improvisation, composition, and graphic scores at STEIM, Worm, Academie St. Joost, and other venues worldwide. Their music does not get published often, and mostly they let it live in the moment, but some of their discography highlights are the album ‘We Bring Light’ on the Silentes label from 2011 and Kraezicken on Kringloop Kassettes from 2024.

Frans de Waard (Kapotte Muziek, Korm Plastics, Vital Weekly…)
https://fransdewaard.com/

Wouter Jaspers is an electro-acoustic sound artist, composer, and (electronic) instrument designer known for his dark, immersive music and innovative instrument designs. Utilising a vast archive of field recordings and (radio)noise, accumulated during his extensive touring life, Jaspers creates compelling sonic narratives. His work transcends genre boundaries, operating fluidly across diverse musical scenes, from experimental noise to structured new music composition, and he collaborates with a multitude of artists, orchestras and ensembles like Ensemble KNM Berlin, Bendik Giske, Theo Nabicht, Hainbach (as Odd Narrative) & Frans de Waard(Ezdanitoff).
He is the co-founder of Berlin-based instrument manufacturer KOMA Elektronik and has recently produced microphones and special instruments for his own brand, Sonic Artefacts. Since 2022, he has been an active collaborator at Sonoscopia in Porto, where he primarily works in the experimental sound studio.

BJNilsen (SE, Ideologic Organ/Editions Mego)
BJ Nilsen is a Swedish sound artist and composer based in Amsterdam. His work explores the intersection of field recording, sound, space, and perception. Through subtle electronic manipulations and detailed editing, Nilsentransforms environmental recordings into layered, immersive soundscapes that inhabit the space between reality and imagination.
His upcoming release, True than Nature (2025) on Ideologic Organ, continues a 30-year career spanning original scores and sound design for music, film, visual arts, and performance.
