BJ Nilsen (SE/NL) is a Swedish composer and sound artist based in Amsterdam, known for his focus on field recordings and soundscapes. His work centers on the sounds of nature and their impact on humans. Recent projects have explored urban acoustic environments and industrial soundscapes, often in collaboration with filmmaker Karl Lemieux. Nilsen’s notable collaborations include projects with Chris Watson, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Anthea Caddy, renowned choreographer Örjan Andersson, and visual artist Femke Herregraven. He has composed original scores, sound design, and soundtracks for theater, dance, TV, and film. Spanning a career of over 30 years, Nilsen’s discography is extensive with over 25 audio works, with his latest release, Irreal (2021), on Editions Mego.
